Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has supported the voting rights of Nigerian citizens living abroad, saying he sees no reason why the National Assembly cannot amend the applicable law to allow it.

The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerian in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa and some staff of the Commission paid him a courtesy visit in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Chairman/CEO of NIDCOM, Hon. Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa thanked President Obasanjo for taking the initiative 20 years ago to encourage Nigerians to coordinate their efforts under the auspices of a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Nigerians in Diaspora Organizations (NIDO).

By harnessing the potential of Nigerians living abroad for growth and national development, Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa briefed President Obasanjo on some of the achievements of NiDCOM since its inception.

As a result of this participation process, Nigerians living abroad have invested in key economic sectors such as housing, hospitality and tourism, agriculture and health.

The commission has also launched a diaspora data mapping portal for demographic and strategic development, the NIDCOM boss said.

Although there are various laws prohibiting sexual harassment in Nigeria, many victims are forced to leave their ideal professions and others are frustrated by unwanted sexual advances from co-workers. As reported by FAITH ADEOYE.
